A message from our Athletic Director
In Bonham ISD our coaches welcome all students to participate in our interscholastic sports programs. Sports are an excellent way to grow emotionally as an individual. As a former high school and collegiate athlete, I know that athletics played a major role in helping prepare me for college and the adult world. Because of sports, the lessons of my coaches, and the games I played, I developed skills in time management, problem solving, delegation, motivation, and team building. As a community let's take advantage of this wonderful opportunity and encourage all of our students to consider participating in one of our many sports programs. We have something for everyone who is willing to give us a try.

Bonham Tennis kicked off their season.
By Coach Logan
The boys got things started. Austen Somerville cruised through the winners bracket before hitting a tough Whitesboro opponent in the boys singles championship. Austen finished 2nd in his first tournament of the season. Marco Avalos had a slow start losing his first match but quickly warmed up making it to the consolation championship game placing 2nd. Lucas Lira lost in the semifinals of the consolation to teammate Marco Avalos. Ashton Akins ran into tough completion early in the bracket but played some great games.
Girls started their season off with a fun day. Katyn Yarbrough and Olivia Foster played in their first ever tennis tournament dropping their last match in a nail biter 8-6 tie breaker for girls doubles. On the other side of the bracket Jenna Hubbard and Abigail Dawson had a great first match. They competed well but fell short at the end. Freshman Casey Barrett came out and competed well in her first high school tennis tournament battling some big competition early in the bracket. Reese Davis had a great start to her senior season finishing 4th out of 12 girls in singles. It was an overall great week for our tennis program.

Bonham High School defeated Dallas Hillcrest Panthers 67-34, despite being in a full classification below the opponent.

LH Rather boys hosted Whitewright last and provided an entertaining competitive night of basketball.
The 8th grade B team started of strong in a battle that went back and forth but were trailing 14-9 at half time. Fatigue got the best of the boys in the second half. Out numbered, the boys continued to fight both offensively and defensively, but late in the game the Whitewright team was able to pull away on their lead. In the 36-17 loss four Indians were able to put points on the board. Leading scorer was Braxyn Smith with 7 points, Ace Edwards and Damon Ash scored 4 points each, and Andrew Felmet scored 2.
The 8th grade A team would go on to lose 38-28 in a game which was much closer than the score would show. The first period got the best of the Indians. With an injury to Elijah Reynolds that would take him out for the rest of the game, and an adjustment to positions on the court, the boys found themselves trailing 13-4. As the Indians settled into the offense in their new positions and played tight aggressive defense, they matched white wright bucket for bucket for the next two periods but were never able to cut the lead to less than 4. In the 4th period fouls from a great defensive effort would get the best of Bonham as Whitewright extended their lead late in the game. Jeren Ross was the leading scorer for the Indians with 15 points followed by Isaiah Reynolds with 6, Carson McClain score 3 before fouling out in the 4th and Elijah Reynolds scored 2 before he was injured in the 1st.
8th Grade Boys Basketball
Indians vs. Blue Ridge
By Allen Rich
Our 8th grade B team had quiet the challenge in front of them, With a few students missing from the line-up for our Indians, they found them selves out numbered throughout the game. In a 55-10 loss the boys continued to fight till the last tick of the clock. This is something that is not easy to do. Many teams would roll over and quit when facing a deficit like this, bu not these boys. I am truly proud of the fight and the growth that these boys step onto the court with everyday. Braxyn Smith was the leading scorer for Bonham with 4 points.
Our 8th grade A-team came to the game with a different energy than the last time they faced Blue Ridge. In their first meeting Bonham trailed the majority of the game by more than 15 and only closed the gap in a the closing minutes to lose by only 9. This next time was a battle from the opening tip off. Back and forth Bonham and Blueridge would fight trading the lead through out the game. With less than 30 second Bonham made a great defensive stop and came away with the ball pressing it down the court. the boys ran their offense and found the perfect back door cut that could have potentially tie the game! The aggressive play of Bonham got the best of them as two teammates tried to receive the same pass resulting in a turn over. Bonham would quickly foul on the ensuing inbound putting Blue Ridged leading scorer on the free throw line. He was only successful with one of his two free throws and the Indians called a timeout with 1.8 seconds left and one chance at a 3 point play to tie the game. Unfortunately, Bonham failed to connect its shot and the boys faced a heartbreaking loss. Elijah Reynold was the leading scorer with 14 points, followed by Jeren Ross with 9 points. Colton Young, Ashton Gurly and Caleb Arris also contributed points the near win. I am so proud of the work these boys are putting in to get better each week and am so proud of their growth defensively and its impact on their game as a whole.
