A message from our Athletic Director
The Coaches of Bonham ISD understand that there are few things important for our sports programs than providing the best possible education for our students. Part of that education are the life values learned through sports participation such as the value of teamwork and setting goals, learning that hard work achieves desired results, and the value of persistence. Sports participation also develops winning attitudes, discipline, striving for excellence, faith, confidence, and how to handle adversity and success.
As we move forward from a spectacular Cross Country, Volleyball and Football season and on to our basketball and soccer season. Let’s as a community keep in mind the educational value of sports and competition. As a warrior family let’s continue to show class with our words and our actions. I look forward to continuing our current playoff streak with our basketball and soccer programs. Go Warriors!

Bonham wins Farmersville Tournament
By Allen Rich
For two years running, the Bonham Warriors have been too much to handle in the Farmersville Invitational Basketball Tournament.
Saturday night it was Bonham beating Alvarado, 62-55, in the finals, with Bonham senior Josh Upke pouring in 36 points. Upke averaged more than 31 points per game in the 2018 Farmersville Invitational Basketball Tournament.
On a night when all the shots weren't falling, Bonham used a gritty defensive performance to put away the Class 4A Alvarado squad for the second time in this tournament.
Bonham got off to a good start, with Tyler Rodriguez hitting a bank shot and Gaige Cravin following his own miss for a 4-0 lead. Gavin hit a free throw and Upke floated through the lane for a finger roll that gave Bonham a quick 7-2 advantage.
Alvarado closed the gap to 9-8, but Bonham had a 15-10 lead after the first quarter. The Warriors stretched their lead to 34-26 at halftime, however Alvarado rallied to only trail by three points, 47-43, heading into the fourth quarter.
Bonham answered every run by Alvarado down the stretch as the Warriors brought home the championship plaque from the Farmersville tournament with a 62-55 win.
Cravin joined Upke in double figures with 13 points, Tanner Reaves scored six, Tyler Rodriguez finished with five points and Brandon Dona dropped in two points.
Bonham vs Prairieland
Bonham senior Josh Upke scored 26 points to lead his Warriors to an exciting three-point win over the Prairiland Patriots.
This was a seesaw battle from the opening tip-off until the final buzzer. Bonham led 11-10 after the first quarter, but it was Prairiland with a 25-24 lead at halftime.
The Patriots had a two-point lead, 44-42, as the fourth quarter got underway, however Bonham outscored Prairiland 15-10 down the stretch to give the Warriors a 57-54 victory.
In addition to the big night by Upke, Tanner Reaves knocked down nine points, Tyler Rodriguez and Noah Shellman both scored seven, with Gaige Cravin, Niyee Boston, Brandon Dona and Cam Reed all tossing in two points apiece.
Warriors vs Alvarado
The Bonham Warriors shook off a slow start to pick up their second win of the day in Farmersville with a tough three-point win over Alvarado.
It was Alvarado with a 13-9 advantage after the opening period, but Bonham had a 24-16 scoring edge in the second quarter to pull in front, 33-29 at the half.
The Warriors had a five-point lead going into the fourth quarter and Bonham turned back a late rally by Alvarado as the Warriors put a 66-63 win in the books.

Bonham Warriors fall to Eustace in Bi-District Playoff game.
By: Allen Rich
A record-setting season came to a close for the Bonham Warriors in a 59-34 bi-district loss to the Eustace Bulldogs.
Eustace struck first when Alejandro Sanchez raced 62 yards to score. In a busy first half, Sanchez would go on to run for four touchdowns and also hit Ethan Austin for a scoring strike
A nice punt return by Noah Shellman set up Bonham's first score and Tyler Rodriguez got the TD on a short run, but the PAT was unsuccessful and Eustace held a 7-6 advantage.
Sanchez got loose for a 75-yard scoring jaunt as Eustace went up 14-6.
Eustace stretched its lead to 21-6 when Sanchez hit Austin with a touchdown pass.
Bonham closed the gap when a pass from Rodriguez to Jerrell Stewart gave the Warriors good field possession and another short TD run by Rodriguez trimmed the Eustace lead to 21-12 when the two-point conversion failed.
Sanchez broke away for his third long touchdown run, this time going in from 71 yards out.
Bonham fought back with a 26-yard touchdown run by Rodriguez, the senior quarterback's third rushing TD of the first half, making the score 28-20 after Rodriguez passed to Stewart for the two-point conversion.
The final score of the first half came on Sanchez's fourth rushing touchdown of the first half to give the Bulldogs a 35-20 lead at halftime.
Eustace added a field goal early in the third quarter to make the score 38-20, but Rodriguez ran for his fourth touchdown and then also ran for the two-point conversion as Bonham whittled the Eustace lead down to 38-28.
In the fourth quarter, Eustace went to the air for its next TD when Cooper Cates passed to Austin and the PAT stretched the lead to 45-28.
Bonham hit pay dirt, but Sanchez offset it with his fifth rushing touchdown of the night to make the score 52-34 as time began running down in the fourth quarter.
Eustace tacked on a late TD to put the finishing touches on a 59-34 win.

Bonham Warriors 63, Commerce 29
Story by Ryan Scott with www.commercejournal.com
An old Northeast Texas rivalry flared up again on Friday, with the Commerce Tigers falling 63-27 to the visiting Bonham Warriors on senior night at Memorial Stadium.
This was the 64th time these two teams have met, with the first match-up way back in 1917. The victory by Bonham broke a tie in the all-time series, with the Warriors now having a 32-31-1 record when facing the Tigers.
Bonham quarterback Tyler Rodriguez was almost unstoppable both through the air and on the ground on Friday, finishing with 334 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 19-of-25 passing. He also ran for 245 yards and three scores on just 12 carries.
Jerrell Stewart was a big-play weapon for Bonham, catching just four passes but amassing 175 receiving yards and a score. Hayden Stevenson had two touchdowns on the ground and 30 yards on eight carries.
Commerce attempted to gain some early momentum with an onside kickoff to start the game, but failed to grab the kick, setting up Bonham with great field position to begin its first drive. The Warriors did not waste much time, scoring on a 3-yard run by Stevenson to get on the board first after less than three minutes of play.
The scoring didn’t stop there, as Bonham continued to pour it on offensively, showing how the Warriors have averaged 49 points per game this season. The Warriors grew their lead to 35-0 in the second quarter before the Tigers got on the board with a 2-yard run from Xzay Basham, but missing the extra point. Following another quick score by Bonham, the home team was down 42-6 with less than a minute left in the half. Basham broke off an 80-yard touchdown run to spark some life into the Commerce side of the field, but the wind was taken out of the Tigers’ sails almost immediately as the Warriors scored on a passing play from Rodriguez to Jerrell Stewart that went for 94 yards on the very next play from scrimmage. The score at halftime was now 49-13.
There was a good start for the Tigers in the third, as Basham picked up a ball fumbled by teammate Nick Aaron and ran it 15 yards for a score early in the quarter. Then Commerce’s J’Den Wilson intercepted a Bonham pass, which then led to a 67-yard scoring run by quarterback Brad Caldwell.
This would be all the Tigers would get, however, as Bonham took back control of the game and finished off the win after a few more scores in the third frame.
The offensive numbers for the Tigers look pretty impressive on their own, but were not enough to match Bonham. Bonham improves to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in district play.
