A message from our Athletic Director
Sportsmanship
It is the mission of the Bonham ISD Athletic Department to actively promote the ideals of sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity. In conjunction with our mission as a public education community, it is our central task to follow not only the letter, but also the spirit of the rules governing public school athletics and the University Interscholastic League. Winning is clearly the designed outcome of intensely played competition. However, winning in Bonham ISD will not come at the expense of our integrity and well-being of our student athletes. Respect is the central to the mission of BISD. Through athletic competition we have a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate respect for coaches, players, game officials, and fans. It is the responsibility of the administration team at BISD to not only enforce the policy on sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity, but to work daily to foster these ideals in our staff, student body and community.
I hope that the entire BISD family is enjoying the great athletic success we are having thus far this season. Let’s be sure we are welcoming to our neighbors and show each school that visits our community the tremendous sportsmanship and class that every member of our school district and community has.
Sincerely,
Dr. Harold Colson

Bonham wins Homecoming
On Homecoming night with the hometown bleachers full, the Bonham Warriors extended their winning streak to seven games with a 63-44 win over the Lone Oak Buffaloes.
It's the Warriors first seven-game winning streak in 26 years.
Bonham quarterback Tyler Rodriguez threw five touchdown passes and ran for four TDs, including an 81-yard scoring jaunt. Rodriguez had two TD passes to Nick Rhinehart, two touchdown passes to Jerrell Stewart, and one scoring strike to Noah Shellman.
Rhinehart was 9-for-9 on extra-point kicks.
Bonham led 14-8 at the first buzzer and 35-30 at the half.
The Warriors had an 11-point advantage, 49-38, going into the fourth quarter.
Rodriguez had a 15-yard touchdown run and a 31-yard sprint to the end zone as Bonham put a 63-44 win in the books. It was another phenomenal performance by the senior signal caller as Rodriguez amassed 318 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns on 19 carries. Through the air, Rodriguez finished the night 24-of-33 for 281 yards and five TDs.
On the defensive side of the ball, Gaige Cravin picked off a pass, forced a fumble, assisted on two tackles, had two solo tackles and three tackles for a loss.
Lone Oak falls to 2-2 in district with the loss.
The Warriors improve to 7-1 on the year and 4-0 in District 5-3A. Bonham has clinched one of the top two seeds out of District 5A, with the district title likely to be decided November 9 when Bonham hosts Van Alstyne (4-0).
Bonham Warriors 56, Emory-Rains 42
The Bonham Warriors extended their winning streak to five games with a 56-42 win over the Emory-Rains Wildcats at Warrior Stadium.
It was another banner performance by Tyler Rodriguez as the senior field general ran for four touchdowns and tossed TD passes to Noah Shellman, Nick Rhinehart and Jerrell Stewart.
The Wildcats scored first, thanks to great field position after a Bonham turnover but the celebration was cut short when Jerrell Stewart took the ensuing kickoff, put a move on a defender and raced 59 yards down the hometown sidelines to tie the game, 7-7, after the first of eight successful PATs by Rhinehart.
Emory-Rains went up 14-7 when running back Eliya Garrett scored his second TD.
Bonham gobbled up real estate on its next drive as Rodriguez connected with Stewart, Hayden Stevenson and Shellman for first downs. Rodriguez got the final 12 yards on a quarterback draw to tie the game, 14-14.
A sack by Bonham linebacker Gaige Cravin, one of his three sacks in the first half, stalled the next drive by Emory-Rains.
Rodriguez scored on a short run and Bonham defensive back Adrian Fuller picked off a desperation pass as the first half ended with the Warriors on top, 21-14.
In the third quarter, Bonham scored on a 10-yard TD pass from Rodriguez to Shellman and Rodriguez went in from 15 yards out. The Wildcats rushed for a score, but Bonham had a 35-21 advantage heading into the final frame.
In the final period, Rodriguez hit Rhinehart on a 30-yard scoring strike and later rushed for his fourth TD of the night, but Emory-Rains quarterback Luke Sheppard had a 75-yard touchdown run and a TD pass to Drake Hurley as the Wildcats narrowed the final margin to 14 points in a 56-42 loss to Bonham.
Bonham Warriors 52, Pottsboro 49
he Bonham Warriors picked up their sixth win in row, but more importantly moved to 3-0 in District 5-3A, with a last-second win in Pottsboro.
It didn't start that way, however.
Pottsboro jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a one-yard run by Cy Shope and a six-yard run by Dylan Kulbeth, along with a pair of PATs by Jacob McDonald.
Bonham got on the scoreboard in the second period when quarterback Tyler Rodriguez scored from one-yard out to culminate a 70-yard drive.
Pottsboro was threatening again when Bonham defensive back Cameron Reed picked off a pass in his own end zone and ran it out to the 25-yard line. The drive stalled, but Bonham's Noah Shellman took the snap on fourth down, faked a punt and ran for a key first down. Rodriguez went in from six yards out for his second rushing TD of the night and the PAT by Nick Rhinehart tied the game, 14-14.
Pottsboro pulled in front, 20-14, when Shope scored from one yard out just before halftime, however the PAT attempt failed.
Early in the third period, Zac Tilley tossed a 55-yard scoring strike to Luke Miller as Pottsboro stretched its advantage to 27-14.
Bonham high-octane offense wasted no time in closing the gap. Rodriguez raced 55 yards to pay dirt and the PAT by Rhinehart whittled Pottsboro's lead down to 27-21. On Bonham's next possession, Hayden Stevenson sprinted 71 yards to tie the game, 27-27.
The PAT by Rhinehart gave the Warriors their first lead of the night, 28-27.
Pottsboro fumbled the kickoff and Bonham took over deep in the Cardinals' end of the field.
It was Stevenson and Rodriguez with the next big play when Stevenson hit Rodriguez with a 12-yard touchdown pass. The PAT gave Bonham a 35-27 lead.
Late in the third quarter, Pottsboro and Bonham traded turnovers. The Cardinals were on the move as the period ended.
Early in the fourth quarter, Shope scored from two yards out as Pottsboro pulled within two points of the lead. Kulbeth passed to Daniel Arnold for the two-point conversion to tie the game, 35-35.
Rodriguez got his fourth rushing TD of the night on a two-yard run and the PAT by Rhinehart gave Bonham a 42-35 lead.
The Bonham quarterback seemed to put the game away with a 38-yard touchdown run but Kulbeth connected with Will Cates for a 79-yard touchdown pass and suddenly Pottsboro had narrowed the gap to 49-42.
With just over two minutes remaining in the game, Pottsboro recovered an onside kick and quickly moved to the Bonham one-yard line. Cates got the final yard to make the score 49-48 and the PAT tied the contest, 49-49.
Pottsboro tried another onside kick, but this time Bonham's Dylan Karl recovered and the Warriors had the ball at midfield with a minutes and a half to play.
A pass to Shellman and a pair of runs by Rodriguez moved the ball to the Pottsboro 20-yard line where Bonham called time out with three seconds on the clock.
The Warriors send out Rhinehart to attempt a 37-yard field goal.
Pottsboro called back-to-back time outs to see if nerves would get the best of the Bonham kicker, but Rhinehart calmly split the uprights to give Bonham a wild 52-49 win on the road as time ran out.

Senior Tony Cruz
Congratulations to our Cross Country Teams #Regionals #tonymakesittostate
The highlight of the day for Bonham fans was watching Tony Cruz finish 9th overall and earn a spot in the state meet in Round Rock on November 3rd. Cruz narrowly missed a trip to Round Rock last year at regionals, but made up for it this time around in his senior year. Tanner Reaves, Said Longoria, Aram Gonzales, Erick Ibarra and Cristian Chavez were the other qualifiers on the team and they all competed at a level that every Warrior fan should be proud of.
Another senior, Samantha Hodge, gave everything she had in her final appearance on the trails with a very respectable 37th place finish in a field of 173 runners. Sam has been a true leader and a model of consistency during her career and the qualities she brings to the table will be deeply missed. Her senior classmates joining her on the trails for the last time and turning in gutsy performances of their own were Lizset Alvarez and Kaitlyn Rhinehart. Other Lady Warriors representing BHS were Kaitlin Barr, Perla Flores and Rayen Campbell, who will all be returning for another season next fall.
Coach Trompler and Coach Gamboa couldn't be more proud of this group of young men and young ladies. They bought in to what the program is about and raised the bar for all of our teams in the future. They truly grew together as a family, always supporting each other and pushing their teammates to be their best.
Good luck to Tony at the state meet. Warrior nation supports you!

Indians vs. Pottsboro
The LH Rather Indians had another rough Thursday night against Pottsboro. Hunter Hagland had the stand out night running the ball Austyn Herrington had several completions. The defensive stand outside were Payton Hayes, Braedon Benson, and Anthony Fields. Pottsboro could not run the ball up the middle. Great job guys and keep up the hard work! Next week the Indians play Lone Oak in Lone Oak.
Thursday night was a difficult night for the LH Rather Indians but the Grey Team was our silver lining. This a group of boys with varying experience levels in football, from first year players up to those who have played every year since peewee! But to refer to them as boys is an understatement. They are truly turning into young men before our eyes. With a number of guys moving to new positions this week, the question was “Are they going to be able to maintain their success?” And their answer, “YES!” The LH Rather Indians Grey Team remains undefeated after capturing a 28-0 win over Pottsboro and it truly was a team effort! Behind the always dominant offensive line both Jesse Kootnz and Logan Thomas were able to put points on the board, but the defense decided they wanted to put points on the board this game too! Kaleb Polly, a first year player for us who is learning more about the game every day, came away with an interception in the fourth quarter and ran it 40 plus yards for a touchdown! Keep up the great work Grey Team.
Indians vs. Emory Rains
The LH Rather Indians traveled to Emory rains after a week off last week and the Grey team had the first match up of the night, and they seized the moment! They boys came out fast and aggressive and had a 12-0 lead after their first offensive quarter of play. Second quarter was a defensive quarter for the grey team and the defense made a statement that carried on through out the whole game. The Grey defense did not give up one first down the entire game which ultimately lead to an 18-0 victory for the grey team. Jacob Gorden and Keaton Russell both were both able to get into the end zone behind great blocking from their teammates! The grey team will face off against Pottsboro on Thursday, October 18th!
The LH Rather White team had another rough week against Emory-Rains. The offense had a tough time scoring, but Hunter Hagland, Austyn Herrington, Payton Hayes and Braeden Benson stood out as the Indians tried to produce points. The defense, led by Angel Esquivel, did a decent job of trying to contain the Emory-Rains offense. Payton Hayes and Michael Cox made several tackles each that prevented big runs. The final score of 26-0 doesn't represent the effort and work put in by all these young men.
Indians vs Lone Oak
The LH Rather Indians took on Lone Oak on an extremely muddy Thursday afternoon. The offense was led by quarterback Austyn Herrington and Hunter Dudley that connected for a 28 yard touchdown pass early in the game. Each player on Offense has shown improvement and the drive to keep working even though they haven't scored as much as they have wanted. The defensive stand outs were Angel Esquivel and Payton Hayes. Each of them had touchdown saving tackles and several tackles for losses. The Lone Oak defense and muddy conditions proved to much for the Indians to overcome with a loss of 26-6.

L.H. Rather Lady Indians district tournament
On October 20th, the 7th and 8th Grade A teams travelled to Leonard for our District Volleyball Tournament. The 7th grade started the morning facing a very tough Van Alstyne team. Bonham struggled to put the ball in play against a hard hitting VA team. We had a few good rallies but just couldn’t really get our defense going. Lily Englutt was the leading server with 5 service points.
The 8th grade A team started their morning off with a big win over Howe. Bonham defeated Howe (25-9) and (25-17). The team played great and communicated on the floor allowing only a few points each game. Brianna Rodriguez and Sarah Wrape each had 3 aces. Aisly Andrew and Breauna Killgo had 2 aces. Rodriguez had 13 service points, Sarah Wrape had 8 service points, and Aisly Andrew had 7 service points.
Bonham advanced to the next round to play Blue Ridge. The Lady Indians took the first game (25-13) but let Blue Ridge sneak in to capture game 2 (25-16), and then the Lady Indians won game 3 (25-12). Brianna Rodriguez had 22 service points with 3 aces. Breana Killgo had 3 aces, Sarah Wrape and Alli Kirkpatrick each had an ace. With this win, the Lady Indians advanced to the championship game.
Bonham played Van Alstyne in a very tough 3 game battle. In the first set, Bonham fell to Van Alstyne (25-23). The second set we were able to take (25-18) and the third set we dropped (26-24). The whole game was intense, going almost point for point in each game. The girls played hard and fell just short of our goal. We made a few critical mistakes that allowed Van Alstyne to inch by us. We are still very proud of their second place finish in district.
Lady Indians vs Leonard
The Lady Indians hosted the Leonard Lady Tigers. The 7th grade B team lost in 2 sets (25-17) and (15-25). The Lady Indians were unable to break the serve of a hard hitting Leonard team. We had too many missed serves and that cost us in the long run. Ashlyn Long-Brauer was the leading server this week.
The 8th grade B team secured a win over Leonard in 2 sets (16-25) and (25-12). Averi Wanner was the leading server with 10 service points. Clarissa Ibarra also had 8 service points. They did a great job serving and communicating on the court. Their defense was much better this week than it has been all season.
The 7th grade A team played the best they have all season in a nail biter. They lost in 2 sets (30-29) and (20-25). Makya High and Jolee McMahon were the leading servers with 7 points each. This team is really improving each week.
The 8th grade A team beat Leonard in 2 sets (24-26) and (25-18). The leading servers in this game were Brianna Rodriguez , Alli Kirkpatrick and Breauna Killgo. The 8th grade A team finishes their regular season off with a 5-1 record.
This weekend, all four teams will be playing in the Princeton Invitational Tournament. Next weekend, the 7th grade A team and 8th grade A team will play in the District Tournament.
